eCabinet
In December 2001 - following consideration of the feasibility study conducted by PwC - Government gave the go-ahead for a landmark eGovernment project, which will transform the way Cabinet does business. The eCabinet project will place Ireland to the forefront in applying information and communication technologies to the entire Cabinet process.
In particular the project focuses on the:
electronic distribution and management of Cabinet papers;
use of technologies in direct support of Cabinet meetings;
use of technologies to improve presentation of complex issues at Cabinet;
creation of new information resources.
Based on an XML infrastructure, the system will be one of the most advanced of its kind. Alongside the use of touch screen terminals at the Cabinet table itself, it will electronically support the document drafting and inter-departmental consultation processes.
eCabinet is driven by Governments desire to lead by example in progressing the Information Society in Ireland. In this regard, it forms part of a wider agenda to harness technologies to offer improved service delivery and internal efficiencies.
Consultancy services for the project - including co-design and software is being provided by In.vision. The eCabinet initiative is being funded under the Governments Information Society Fund.
