Taoiseach to meet PM of Luxembourg

The Taoiseach Mr. Bertie Ahern T.D. will meet the current President in Office of the European Union, Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker of Luxembourg tomorrow (Friday). The meeting which will be the first meeting at Head of Government level between the two countries during the Luxembourg Presidency will deal with the very challenging agenda facing the European Union at this time.

Among the matters that will be discussed will be the outlook for Agenda 2000 which includes the Enlargement of the Union and the next round of Financial Perspectives including expenditure on the Structural Funds and the Common Agricultural Policy.

The Special European Council on Employment which is to be held in Luxembourg on 20th November will also be discussed at the meeting as will the general priorities of the Luxembourg Presidency.

The Abolition of duty free facilities for intra community travel from 30th June 1999 will also be raised by the Taoiseach.
