Government considers Oireachtas Committee’s Report on 1974 Dublin and Monaghan Bombings
The Government has considered the Final Report of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Womens Rights on the Report of the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Dublin and Monaghan Bombings.
The Government agreed, in principle, to the establishment of a Commission of Investigation to examine the Garda investigation and missing documentation. The Government also agreed to pursue, with the British Government, the establishment of a Weston Park style inquiry into the bombings.
A number of other recommendations will be considered by Ministers within their areas of responsibility.
Terms of Reference and establishment procedures for the Commission of Investigation will be brought to Government in the near future.
