The Taoiseach, Mr. Bertie Ahern T.D., accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dermot Ahern T.D., and the Minister of State for European Affairs Mr. Dick Roche T.D., will attend the European Council in Brussels today.
I am delighted to have traveled to Lisbon together with Minister Ahern and Minister Roche to sign the Reform Treaty.
The signature of the Treaty is an important milestone for the Union. It allows the Union move from a period of introspection to face outward to the real challenges and opportunities we face. It is time now to focus on what it is we want our Union to do and on getting results, rather than institutional questions.
The Taoiseach travels to Lisbon this morning to attend the signing ceremony for the Reform Treaty. He will be accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dermot Ahern T.D., and the Minister of State for European Affairs Mr. Dick Roche T.D..

Speaking at the Annual Lunch for the International Financial Services Industry in Dublin Castle today, the Taoiseach underlined the importance of a high quality regulatory environment to Ireland’s continued competitiveness and noted that, “research undertaken by the IMF ranked the Irish system and structure of financial regulation first in the world in terms of its independence and accountability.”
