I learned today with great sadness of the death of Dermot Nally, a distinguished public servant and for many years Secretary to the Government.
The Prime Minister and the Taoiseach issued the following statement after meeting in Copenhagen.
"While work remains to be done, we are both convinced that significant progress is being made on the remaining issues concerning devolution of policing and justice and other issues still outstanding from the St Andrews Agreement.

The Taoiseach says that Budget 2010 will provide a significant stimulus for jobs, training and employment opportunities.
"The measures in Budget 2010 mean that 180,000 individuals will receive training or supports in 2010 at a total cost of over €1.1 billion" according to Mr. Cowen.

The Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, announced today that Ireland has secured the Research and Innovation portfolio in the new European Commission. Maire Geoghegan Quinn, Ireland's nominee to the new Commission, is to be allocated this portfolio by Commission President, Jose Manuel Barroso.
The Taoiseach Mr. Brian Cowen T.D. held a meeting with the Minister for the Environment and Local Government Mr. John Gormley T.D. and the Co-ordinator of the Emergency Task Force. This followed a special meeting of the Emergency Task Force earlier today. They reviewed the response of the emergency services and local authorities to the unprecedented flooding that has so severely impacted on many parts of the Country.
