Taoiseach's Speeches Archive 2005
Thank you for your warm welcome to St David’s CBS.
I am delighted to be here for this important occasion which provides a unique opportunity for me to meet with the students and teachers who contribute so much to the ongoing development of this school.
Mr President,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you here this afternoon as we approach the end of the first State Visit by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria to Ireland.
I am delighted to be here to address the Ireland 1905 conference.
Any conference that gives fresh understanding on Ireland’s rich past is welcome but this conference is even more so because it marks the centenary of the founding of Sinn Féin and the Ulster Unionist Council.
I am proud to mark the opening of such a vitally important link in Ireland’s road network today. This bypass, delivered on budget and 10 months early, significantly enhances access to and from the west of Ireland and Dublin. It will also greatly improve travel times and safety on this route.
Tá an-áthas orm a bheith in bhur measc ag an ocáid speisíalta seo. Is dea-chomhartha iad na forbairtí nua seo don chomógaíocht i measc mic léinn an triú leibhéil.
It gives me great pleasure to join with Minister Hanafin here this morning to talk in further detail about the Government's investment plans for higher education, as set out in the Budget on Wednesday. As you know, we announced an investment package of €1.2 billion for the sector over the next five years. Of this, €300 million will be allocated to a new Strategic Innovation Fund and some €900 million has been allocated to a five year capital programme for the sector. Minister Hanafin will outline further detail of the individual projects that will now be progressed under this capital programme in a few minutes.
I was delighted to accept the invitation to speak with you as we approach Christmas and the New Year.
This is the Budget of a successful economy that continues to outperform practically all others in the developed world.
I am delighted to be in DCU today to launch your new Strategic Plan for the period 2006 to 2008.
I am delighted to be here this evening for the launch of this history of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Dublin 1884-2000.
