Minister of State and Chief Whip's Private Office

The following is a brief outline of the ongoing duties in the Whip's Office:-

  • Liaising with the various Offices in Leinster House re Dáil business of Dáil Eireann 

  • getting the Order of Business cleared and providing the Ceann Comhairle with the list of speakers for each topic.

  • The Taoiseach's Office has also to be kept informed of what is happening.

  • Update Bills on Dáil and Seanad Order Papers Dáil before the Order of Business.

  • Ensuring there are sufficient Government speakers on each item of Dáil business (regularly ringing TDs to ask if they will speak - sometimes at a minute's notice)

  • Monitoring the business in the House constantly. Monitor Private Member's Business (Private Member's Business is shared with Fine Gael and Labour) and takes place from 7.00 to 8.30 on a Tuesday and Wednesday.)

  • Prepare the Order of Business each day.

  • Do brief for Whip's Meeting and attend same.

  • Send out Whip and Schedule every Thursday.

  • Keeping the Minister's Diary.
