Born: Wexford, March 1947.
Family: Married to Eleanor Griffin 3 sons, 1 daughter.
Education: Wexford CBS, University College Dublin (BComm, DPA, MPA).
Occupation: Full-time Public Representative and former University Lecture in Public Administration, Public Finance and the Institutions and Policies of the European Union.
Dick Roche is Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach and Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs with special responsibility for European Affairs. He served as Minister of State for European Affairs from 2002 to September 2004 and as Minister for Environment, Heritage and Local Government from 2004 – 2007.
Dick was first elected in the Dáil in 1987. He was re-elected in 1989,1997, 2002 and 2007.
Dick served in Seanad Éireann as a Taoiseach’s nominee from November 1992 to February 1993. He was elected to Seanad Éireann on the Administrative Panel in 1993.
In the Dáil, Dick served as Chairman of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on the Strategic Management Initiative 1997 2002 and as Chairman of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on State Sponsored Bodies 1989 - 1992 Dick was a member of a number of other Oireachtas committees including the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Public Enterprise and the Dáil Committee on Procedures and Privileges.
Dick was first elected to Greystones Town Commissioners in 1984 and served on the Commission from 1984 until his appointment as Minister of State in 2002. Commission Chairman 1996-1997.
Elected to Wicklow County Council in 1985 and served on the Council until 2002 Board Member, Eastern Health Board 1988-1997, Board of Meath Hospital 1989 –97, Former member Irish Commission for Justice and Peace (Chairman 1985 1986), Institute of Public Administration, International Ombudsman Institute, Association of Graduates in Public Administration, Irish Council of the European Movement.
In 1978 Dick was awarded the United Nations Human Rights Fellowship. He is author of many articles on public administration in Ireland. Dick has been awarded the Order of Merit and Estonian Medal
